Hello, this is the seventh week of the SCAD x CATT x Harbor x ETC blog!

During the meeting with the mentor on Tuesday, they pointed out that they wanted to see more of the spider animation, which is tied to the weird aspect of the piece, so the team decided to add the spider animation between the glass breakdown and the actress’s nail movement shot with the glasses on.

To achieve the shot we want, I select the spider that best suits our animation needs and build the control rig in Unreal to prepare the system for animating in Sequencer.

Once the spider control rig is properly setup I put the asset into our salt flat environment to start the animation process. For this animation, the direction of the team is to mimic the actress’s nail movement in the shot, so it would fit the piece’s overall theme and style. Based on the nail direction, I decided to have the spider sit on top of the salt flat structure and have its legs scratch its surface, mimicking the nail movement from the actress.

Upon completing the animation, I hand the sequencer and spider assets to the rest of the team for integration into Unreal and shot rendering.
